What it's like
Quarto Oggiaro lies to the north-west, between the railway, the Certosa and the boundary with Bollate.
Until the 1950s it was farmland with a few farmhouses; then the city hastily built large public-housing districts here to house immigration from the south and the Veneto.
Built without services and poorly connected, for decades the quarter was a byword for hardship and organised crime in the city's perception.
Today's reality is more nuanced: a stable population, a strong network of associations and community centres, and regeneration work on housing and public spaces.
Its green heart is the Parco di Villa Scheibler, around an 18th-century villa with its farmhouse, restored and reopened as a civic space. Milano Certosa station, on the suburban rail, brings the quarter within a few minutes of the centre.

Quarto Oggiaro has a neighbourhood food offer and several cuisines tied to the communities living there, between via Pascarella and via Amoretti.
The quarter has three street markets: via Traversi on Thursday, via Pascarella on Tuesday and the Quartiere Carbonia one on Friday.
Getting there
Quarto Oggiaro has no metro, but it has two suburban-rail stations: Milano Certosa and Milano Quarto Oggiaro, with frequent trains to the centre and the north-western hinterland. On the surface there are trams 12 and 14, linking the quarter to the Duomo.
