What it's like
The corso Lodi axis runs down from Porta Romana towards the south-east as far as piazzale Corvetto, a major traffic junction, and on towards the Parco Sud. It is an area of public housing built in the 1930s and 1950s, with wide courtyards and access balconies.
Corvetto has for decades been one of the quarters with the highest share of foreign residents, particularly from Egypt, the Philippines and South America, and this has brought shops, places of worship and restaurants from around the world. It is also a quarter with real social problems, often covered in the city news.
On the southern side the first fields of the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano open up, with farmhouses and irrigation channels: the boundary between city and countryside here is sharp and close.

Where to eat and drink
Corvetto's cooking is that of its communities: Egyptian rotisseries and bakeries, Filipino minimarkets, South American restaurants along corso Lodi and in the streets around piazzale Gabrio Rosa.
The via Oglio market on Saturday and the via Mompiani one on Tuesday handle daily shopping.
Getting there
The yellow M3 serves the area with the Corvetto, Porto di Mare and Brenta stops. On the surface there is tram 24, linking Corvetto to the Duomo and to Vigentino. Piazzale Corvetto is a large road junction, best avoided by car at peak times.
