The largest historic park in the city after Sempione, opened in 1936 to a design by Enrico Casiraghi with the idea of recreating the Lombard countryside inside Milan. Seventy-seven hectares on the east side, crossed by the river Lambro, which forms bends, islets and low banks.
It has lawns shaped by artificial mounds, rows of trees and old farmhouses, and it is big enough to absorb runners, cyclists, dogs and picnics without ever feeling full. In the 1970s it hosted a famous youth festival; today it is mainly the big green space for the Città Studi district.
