The first park in Milan conceived as a public garden, opened in 1784 to a design by Giuseppe Piermarini and extended a century later with the English-style section towards via Palestro. Seventeen hectares between Porta Venezia and the ramparts, with mature trees, a low hill and a pond.
People come to run the perimeter loop, bring children to the historic carousel and the small playground, or visit the Natural History Museum and the Planetarium, both inside the park. It is named after the journalist Indro Montanelli, shot in the legs here in 1977, with a statue under the trees.
