The neighbourhood
Brera is Milan's artists' quarter: the Academy of Fine Arts, the Pinacoteca, the Botanical Garden and a grid of cobbled streets full of galleries and restaurants.
It has become expensive and touristy, but it remains one of the few corners of the city with its historic layout intact.
The San Marco market
The San Marco market, Monday and Thursday mornings, is held around the church of the same name, where Mozart played as a boy. It is a small, genteel market: flowers, good fruit, cheese, a few minor antiques stalls.
Around
A few minutes away is the Porta Nuova market, on Saturdays. Brera is best walked: from the Academy to the Botanical Garden, then on towards the Castello Sforzesco and Parco Sempione.
